During the past two months, many readers have asked me why I am so passionate about standing up for people who have no real voice in our society. If you watch this short video on my oldest brother’s life, you will understand. Standing up for what is right is a longtime Watkins family tradition.

I’m really enjoying getting to know you and everything that makes you who you are. I can truly say you are one of the people that I respect most in this world. With everything you’ve been through you could have become a very bitter individual. Instead you freely give of your time and expertise. Thank you, Angie Ingram, for bringing this gentleman into my life and thank you, Donald, for everything you’ve done for us and for advancing civil rights during your lifetime. I and my niece and nephew thank you!

I cried. Thank you for sharing that. I'm so sorry he is gone from this place. When he talked about saving life not down the road, but saving life immediately, it made me think of the urgency with which we must act to save the lives of companion animals. I do not mean to compare his work with your reporting about issues related to companion animals. It just all goes back to doing what is right and being outspoken and respecting all life with compassion.
